Let's face it, new year's resolutions suck. Rarely do people follow through on promises they make themselves. Instead of diving into the reasons why people fail at reaching their goals, I'm going to show you 3 easy ways you can make 2014 your best year ever.
My mission in life is to help people build wealth, live an adventurous life, and give back to society. At the end of the day, most people just want to be happy and spend their time doing the things that make them feel alive. For some, this could mean scuba diving around the world, spending time with their children, or becoming a millionaire so they can have a lasting positive impact on the world.
Start Building True Wealth & Earn More Money Than You Ever Have Before.
Many people let fear hold them back from taking control of their financial future. They continue to barely scrape by while living in a box lifestyle. Building wealth and making a lot of money all starts by making a decision that you're going to grab the bull by the horns, ignore your fears, and pursue something that shows the potential to generate a sizable and sustainable income stream.
Building wealth is actually pretty simple, but many people tend to over-complicate how it's done. There's really only two ways to generate a sustainable income stream. The first is to develop a skill like day trading or marketing. The second is to build a business that solves a big problem.
Having consulting with hundreds of startups and training thousands of day traders, I've seen one habit that tends to separate those who succeed with those who fall flat on their face – showing up. That's right, showing up day after day tends to be the most simple and most difficult thing for people to do.
You see, it's easy to get excited about making a shit-load of money, but hardly anyone is willing to do the work it takes to getting from A-Z. For example, you'd be surprised how many people just want to plug in some magic stock trading software that makes them a million bucks on autopilot. They don't want to hear that trading is a skill that takes a little time to develop.
Through my Angel Investing Network, I see dozens of startups looking to raise capital. I talk to many entrepreneurs who have a “great idea”, but haven't spent a little time testing the idea to see if it solves a big enough problem or how people will respond to it.
If you want to make more money in 2014, take these two simple steps:
1. Decide if you're going to develop a skill or solve a problem
2. Commit to “showing up” every day
Spend more time doing things that make you feel passionate and alive.
In 2013 I spent about half of the year scuba diving through Central America and exploring Southeast Asia. Traveling expands our social awareness, gratitude, and overall enjoyment of life. And if you've been following my YouTube channel for a while, you've seen some of my crazy adventures from around the world, and how traveling more can make you really happy.
In the video below I take you on a journey through Thailand and give you 3 reasons why you should travel more:
I get emails and tweets from people saying that long-term travel is too expensive or they don't have time for it. Without going on a huge rant, I'll just say that it IS possible to make damn good money while traveling the world. All it takes is a little effort and self-direction.
So, this year I have a challenge for you: take up a hobby or adventure that pushes the limits of what you thought was possible. Scared of the ocean? Go scuba diving. Have a fear of heights? Go trek through the Himalayas.
Use these two simple tools for getting in better physical shape.
Last year I surprised everyone by becoming a vegetarian. In this post I explain why and how I did it. What started out as a test ended up helping me to lose 15 pounds and gain a ton of energy. Granted, I'm nowhere close to being in tip-top shape, but it's a strong step in the right direction.
I can't say that becoming a vegetarian is right for everybody, but it might be worth testing out. I didn't think it would stick for me, but I became addicted to the vegetarian lifestyle within 2 weeks of giving up meat. The incredible thing is I don't feel like I was “dieting” or restricting myself from anything. Click here to see how to easily become a vegetarian.
The easiest way to get in a great workout every day
I think most people in Western society tend to struggle with working out because of time restrictions. A few years ago I was doing really well with the famous P90X program. The problem with DVD workout programs is that they typically take anywhere from 45 – 90 minutes to complete. If you're a busy person, it can become easy to find excuses not to work out.
I think the best way to stick to a workout is to find something that gives you the maximum result for as little effort as possible. In other words, apply the 80/20 rule to your workouts.
Recently I discovered the “Scientific 7-Minute Workout”. You can see the NY Time's write-up on it here. Basically, it's high intensity interval training for 7 minutes. All the exercises use your own body weight, and the only exercise equipment needed is a chair. I use the Iphone app to workout anywhere I am in the world.
If you want to get in better shape in 2014, I encourage you to try these two things:
1. Test out the two-week vegetarian diet to see how you feel, and keep going if you like it.
2. Commit to doing the scientific 7-minute workout at least 5 times a week
